ROCKPORT – Nick Cook of Shelton, Conn., took the safe route on the first playoff hole, but his bogey there was enough to edge Jeff Seavey of Warren in the Cleveland Golf Tour’s Samoset Open at Samoset Resort on Saturday.

The two had tied at 5-under-par 205 after Seavey had shot a tourney-best 65 in the final round and Cook followed with a 67 to tie.

In the playoff, Seavey had tried to reach the 475-yard, par-4 18th green in two from the right rough, but his 5-iron shot went into the pond fronting the green. He hit his next shot 8 feet from the pin but couldn’t convert the bogey putt.

Cook laid up with his second shot, hit a wedge to 20 feet, and two-putted for the win that earned him $13,000 out of the $86,400 purse. Seavey received $7,800.
