Cheers to Bangor

Eat, drink and be merry this Saturday during downtown Bangor’s Autumn Afternoon. The follow-up to Oktoberfest will feature live music by the Aurora Jazz Project and the Frozen Swamp Choppers, food vendors and a beer garden featuring 30 beers. Rumor has it Gretel, aka Chris Geaghan of the Whig & Courier in braids and a dirndl, could make a guest appearance as a barmaid. The event will take place from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, in West Market Square.

Easy as pie

If your pie crust tastes more like cardboard than pastry, head to The Belfast Co-op from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, for a free demonstration. Jennifer Armstrong, Cori Shooter and Larason Guthrie, three bakers with distinctive styles, will share tips at the free session. For information, visit www.belfast.coop.com or call 338-2532. You can show off your new skills from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 2, during the annual Belfast Pie and Story Festival. The pie contest includes the following categories: most original pie, most beautiful pie, most local ingredients pie, yummy mess and best overall. For information on entering the contest, call Susan Guthrie at 338-6140.
