Kids’ poet Prelutsky coming to Bangor

“Wait till we tell you,

Wait till we say,

Jack Prelutsky is on his way.

Who is Jack Prelutsky, you say?

Well he’s a poet for children, hurray, and it will be one fantabulous day!”

BANGOR – Have you ever imagined that you would ride a purple pelican in the sky? Have you ever thought about what it would be like to have your nose between your toes?

Well, Jack Prelutsky has thought about it, and he has written it all down for us, in books such as “A Pizza the Size of the Sun,” and “Something Big Has Been Here.” Jack Prelutsky is what it’s all about when it comes to kids’ poetry.

Meet Jack Prelutsky on Monday, Oct. 10. at the Maine Discovery Museum. It will be an all-day event with two family performances at 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m., with music and poems performed by Prelutsky. There also will be an opportunity to have books signed by the author. The performances are free with museum admission, but seating is limited.

The nationally renowned children’s poet is here for only one day, from Seattle, Washington. Prelutsky is winner of the Maine Discovery Museum’s 2005 Time of Wonder book award for his latest book of poems, “If Not for the Cat.”

In conjunction with Prelutsky’s visit, the museum will celebrate the first birthday of its store. The party will include balloons, face painting, store discounts, toy demonstrations, free gifts and more.

Northeast Cardiology Associates and Greenwillow Books, an imprint of HarperCollins Publishers, are sponsors for the event.
