Names honor Indians

My grandfather’s name was Bloomfield Moon. My heritage is from the Micmac tribe and I’m proud of it.

I felt so sad when I read in the paper that Old Town High School had to stop using “Indian” for their school motto. Political correctness has taken Bible and prayer from our schools, discipline and morals out of our homes, and now the Indians don’t want any reference made about red skins, warriors or braves.

This is ridiculous.

We worked hard and suffered much abuse after we helped the “white man” to survive their first winter in this country.

Sure our skin was a different color, so we were called “redskins.” We fought hard for our land and we were called “warriors” and we had to be “brave” to stop the military with their guns against our tomahawks.

It gives quality to our heritage when schools and pro sports use the names “Indian,” “Redskins” and “Braves.”

This way people should never forget we were here first.
