Raymond Alley started his varsity basketball career as an eighth-grader on the island of Vinalhaven.

By the time he hung up the sneakers, the fiery guard was the all-time leading scorer at Husson College in Bangor.

Alley will be recognized for his basketball accomplishments Saturday when, along with four others, he is inducted into the Husson College Sports Hall of Fame.

Being recognized along with Alley are former Braves (now Eagles) greats Stephanie Shaw, Troy Martin, John Boucher, and Lori Yanush Carroll.

The induction ceremony, part of Husson’s homecoming celebration, is scheduled for Saturday at 6:30 p.m. in the G. Peirce Webber Campus center in Peabody Hall.

Alley, who earned All-America honors as a junior, scored 2,657 points during his career, averaging 20.1 points per game.

Alley also ranks fifth in career assists at Husson. He was named a tournament MVP on seven occasions.

“Raymond was an unbelievably explosive offensive force and an outstanding defensive player,” said former Husson coach Bruce MacGregor.

The 1995 graduate lives in Brewer with his wife Kristi Wildman Alley, also a hall of fame member, and their four daughters.

Shaw (’96) was a four-year starter for coach Kissy Walker. As a freshman, she played on the team that reached the final four at the 1993 NAIA National Tournament.

Shaw wound up fourth on the Husson women’s career scoring list with 928 points (10.2 ppg). She also ranks fourth in steals and fifth in rebounds.

“Stephanie was only 5-8, but played the post and was a force underneath the basket,” Walker said. “She was the ultimate team player.”

Martin (’95) was a baseball standout for Husson as an outfielder and pitcher. He was the New England Player of the Year and earned NAIA All-New England accolades three times.

Martin played on two Husson teams that beat Division I University of Maine and competed in two NAIA regionals. He owns the school record with a 28-game hitting streak and is in the top 10 in every single-season offensive category except for home runs.

“Troy was one of the best players I coached during my tenure at Husson College,” said former coach John Kolasinski. “He was a leader and an inspiration to his teammates and to the coaching staff.”

Boucher (’66) was a three-sport performer in baseball, soccer, and golf but is being inducted for his success at and dedication to coaching soccer.

Boucher has coached soccer for more than 20 years in New Hampshire, leading the Souhegan High girls team to eight straight state championships. His career record there was 175-15-5.

Husson’s soccer pitch bears the name of Boucher, who is a member of Husson’s board of trustees.

Yanush Carroll (’95) was a four-year softball star at shortstop for coach Shannon Whiting.

The Old Town native owns Husson career records for home runs (6) and triples (8) and ranks second all-time with 124 hits, 115 runs and 50 stolen bases.

“Lori was a standout at Husson, clearly one of the best ever,” Whiting said. “Though her offensive stats are fantastic, I remember her solid defense, teamwork and sportsmanship.”

Dunlay named MMA coach

Brad Dunlay has been named the men’s lacrosse coach at Maine Maritime Academy in Castine, athletic director Jim Dyer announced recently.

Dunlay succeeds Patrick Haugen, who resigned recently after three seasons guiding the Mariners. He has been on the MMA staff for four years, serving as an assistant football coach, facilities manager and director of intramurals.

Dunlay, a native of Sauqoit, N.Y., is a 1999 graduate of Springfield College (Mass.), where he competed in football and track and field. He earned a master’s degree there in 2001.
