In the third quarter, Porter ran 49 yards for a touchdown on an outside option, a play coach Ed Ortego believed sealed the game.

“We really started to pull away in the second half,” said Ortego. “After that play, we knew we had control of the game.”

With the help of the offensive line, the Witches were able to rush for 330 yards.

“Our line was blocking really well and our reads were good,” said fullback Ben Caldwell, who finished with 70 yards and two touchdowns.

Defensively, Matt Wilson recovered a Bronco fumble in the second quarter, returning it for a 61-yard score.

“Our defense was stellar,” said Caldwell, “especially in the first half.”

The Witches defense was able to step in the way of Chris Morris four times during the game, with cornerback Ricky Adams picking off two passes.

“The kids played hard tonight,” said Ortego. “I thought we came out pretty fast. [Hampden] is a big, physical team and we knew they would come at us real hard.”
