A small group of volunteers from nine churches in six Brewer-area towns has a big plan. The people who run the Brewer Christian Food Cupboard need more room than they have in their 8-foot-by-16-foot cupboard and closet at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church and some heated storage provided by Calvary Baptist Church, both of Brewer. The cupboard serves 75 to 100 families a month from Brewer, Clifton, Dedham, Eddington, Holden and Orrington. To raise money for an expansion, the cupboard plans an Oct. 15 dance and silent auction – “our first attempt to increase the public’s awareness of our existence and to raise funds,” the cupboard said in a news release. It will be at Wellforms on outer Wilson Street in Brewer. A free salsa dance lesson is planned at 7 p.m., followed by the Queen City Big Band from 8 to 10 p.m. For information, contact Jan Ashton by phone at 989-3893 or by mail at 550 N. Main St., Brewer.
