Anglers looking to learn how to tie their own flies will have that opportunity, thanks to a class being offered in Bangor.
Ron Landry of the Penobscot Fly Fishers will teach a six-week beginner fly-tying course as part of Bangor Adult & Community Education beginning on Thursday.
Landry is an accomplished angler and fly-tier with years of experience both tying and teaching the enjoyable pastime.
The class will meet from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and will cost $30 for Bangor residents, $40 for nonresidents. There will also be a $30 materials fee payable to the instructor on the first night of the class.

Blue Hill fall shoot scheduled
The Blue Hill Rifle and Pistol Club will hold its annual fall shoot on Oct. 16. The all-day event will begin at 10 a.m., rain or shine.
Scheduled events include standard trap shooting, wobble trap, standing deer, running deer, .410 turkey shoot for kids, archery, and indoor shooting. Shooters of all skill levels are welcome to participate.
A raffle will be held, with a $300 gift certificate toward a firearm at Treestump Leather or a $200 American Express gift certificate up for grabs. Other prizes will also be awarded.
Refreshments will be available.

Penobscot Fly Fishers to meet
The Penobscot Fly Fishers will hold their regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 5, at the Coach House Restaurant in Brewer.
The meeting begins at 6 p.m. and will feature a presentation by biologist Clayton Harvey. Harvey will talk about fishing in Alaska, and the presentation will feature a slide show.
