Ross lifts Lions past Panthers

BELFAST – Jillian Ross scored 9:06 into the first half to lead the undefeated Belfast Lions to a 1-0 high school field hockey win over the Waterville Purple Panthers Monday.

The goal was set up by Kelsey Jackson, who passed the ball from the top of the circle to Britt Cummings. Cummings then quickly hit the ball to Ross, who gathered the ball from about seven yards out and sent it past the goalie’s left side. Belfast is now 11-0.

Liz Anderson made one save on one shot for Belfast while Emily Sprague had eight saves on nine shots for 8-2-1 Waterville.

JV: Belfast 1-0

Foxcroft 5, Old Town 2

At Old Town, Kayla Clukey scored three goals to lead Foxcroft Academy to the win.

Jen Gagnon and Amy Molinaio both scored a goal for 8-4 Foxcroft and Molly Cyr had an assist. Morgan Rice made 27 saves on 29 shots.

Julie Smart and Sarah Wilcox each scored a goal for 0-9-1 Old Town and Cally Randall had an assist. Kitty Campbell stopped 16 of 21 shots.

JV: Foxcroft 2-1

Stearns 4, Orono 0

At Millinocket, Felicia Achorn scored twice to push Stearns past Orono.

Jamie Johnson and Paige Curtis both scored a goal for 8-2 Stearns and Mikaela Rosebush had an assist. Deanna Michaud stopped all seven shots.

Kristine Kittridge made 14 saves on 18 shots for 2-8-1 Orono.

Girls soccer

Lee 11, Schenck 0

At East Millinocket, Aarika Ritchie and Amanda Gifford each recorded four goals and an assist to help Lee improve to 11-0.

Liz Read, Karin Bird and Brooke Harris each added a goal while Laci McLaughlin and Marci Moors had an assist apiece. Jackie Moors made three saves on five shots.

For 6-4 Schenck, Robin Larlee made three saves on 10 shots and Tricia Hobbs had nine saves on 16 shots.

Woodland 10, East Grand 0

At Woodland, Gena Clark and Rachel Torrey each had three goals to lead Woodland to victory.

Heidi Sappier scored two goals and had three assists for the 4-4-2 Dragons and Lacey Gillespie added two goals. Cindy Bergin stopped one of three shots.

Courtney Lloyd made 10 saves on 34 shots for 0-10 East Grand of Danforth.

Calais 3, Shead 1

At Calais, Courtney Hill broke a 1-1 tie with a goal nine minutes left in the first half to carry the Blue Devils to victory.

Kayla Cobb and Heidi Graceffa both scored a goal for 4-7 Calais. Steph Perry stopped 13 of 14 shots.

Lauretta Ricker scored for 4-5-1 Shead of Eastport. Dorothy Pottle turned away 12 of 15 shots.

Ellsworth 1, Bucksport 0

At Ellsworth, Emily Miller scored with 5:45 left in regulation on a Maggie Harding assist to lead Ellsworth to victory.

Catie Cravens stopped all five shots for 8-2-1 Ellsworth.

Katie Hurd made nine saves on 12 shots for 5-3-3 Bucksport.

Bangor Chr. 5, DI-Stonington 0

At Deer Isle, Christin Pelletier scored three goals and assisted another to lead Bangor Christian to the win.

Amber Leathers added two goals and an assist for 8-2 Bangor Christian and Brooke Hale had two assists. Mariah Bach made two saves on 10 shots.

Anika Powers stopped 12 of 25 shots for 2-7-1 Deer Isle-Stonington.

Boys soccer

MCI 7, Rockland 0

At Rockland, Mark Trombley netted four goals to lead the Huskies of Pittsfield to their eighth win against three losses.

Dustin Varney notched two goals and one assist while Trevin Ming added a goal for MCI. Tristan Goewey made three saves on six shots.

Kevin Makson recorded nine saves on 21 shots for 1-10 Rockland.

Greenville 6, Valley 1

At Greenville, Jonah Lizotte scored two goals and assisted another to lead Greenville to the win.

Joe Jardine had two goals for 9-0 Greenville. Corey Woodbury and Kyle Whitman both added a goal. Brandon Lavigne made nine saves on 15 shots.

Otis Hatfield scored a second-half goal for 0-11 Valley of Bingham. Travis Hovey stopped 14 of 43 shots.

Mt. Blue 4, Old Town 1

At Old Town, Devin Fereirra tallied two goals in the win for Mt. Blue of Farmington.

Alex Lepage scored one goal and assisted on another for the 6-4 Cougars and Jamie Sawyer added a goal. Justin Davis had 18 saves on 21 shots.

Nate Lonko scored off a pass from Matt Jones for 3-6 Old Town. Ethan Shanley stopped 15 of 23 shots.
