PORTLAND – Herb Ludwig, a founding member of the contemporary-folk trio Devonsquare, died Monday at age 58.

Ludwig, who also had a law practice in South Portland, died at Maine Medical Center of complications from heart surgery.

Ludwig teamed up with Tom Dean and Alana MacDonald to perform as Devonsquare, one of northern New England’s most enduring musical groups. It had a wide following well beyond its base in Maine.

Ludwig’s survivors include his wife, Ann. A memorial service will be held next week in the Portland area.
