ROCKLAND – A 41-year-old woman was injured Monday night when she fell off the back of a motorcycle on Warren Street.

Maria Guarente, whose hometown could not be determined, was treated at the scene by Rockland Emergency Medical Services personnel and was taken to Penobscot Bay Medical Center in Rockport, Deputy Police Chief Wallace said Tuesday. She was treated and then released, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

Guarente was riding on the back of a 2000 Kawasaki motorcycle driven by Jeffrey Benner, 32, of Rockland when she fell off the bike as he accelerated, Tower said, adding, “I don’t believe speed was a factor.”

Neither the driver nor the passenger was wearing a helmet at the time of the 6:05 p.m. accident, Tower said.
