ORONO – The 2005-2006 Bangor Symphony Orchestra concert season will commence in October. Classical concerts are at 3 p.m. at the Maine Center for the Arts on the University of Maine campus.

The schedule is:

. A German Trio, Sunday, Nov. 6, guest soloists Phillip and Noreen Silver, and Trond Saeverud playing Beethoven. The concert will offer Carl Maria von Weber’s “Der Freischutza: Overture,” Ludwig van Beethoven’s “Concerto, violin, violoncello & piano, op. 56, C major (triple concerto),” Johannes Brahms’ “Symphony no. 1, op. 68, C minor.”

. Saint-Saens, Strauss and Surprises, Sunday, Jan. 22, 2006; snow date, Jan. 23, guest soloist Michelle Kim. The musical agenda is Franz Joseph Haydn’s “Symphony no. 94, G major (Surprise),” Camille Saint-Saens’ “Concerto, piano, no. 4, op. 44, C minor,” Richard Strauss’ “Tod und Verkrung, op. 24,” and Louis Moreau Gottschalk’s “Grande Tarantelle, piano and orchestra, op. 67.”

. A Fantastic Journey, Sunday, March 12, 2006; snow date, March 13, guest soloist Christel Lee playing Tchaikovsky. The afternoon’s music is Giacomo Meyerbeer’s “Le Prophete: Coronation march,” Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s “Concerto, violin, op. 35, D major,” Hector Berlioz’s “Symphonie fantastique, op. 14.”

. Inspiration and Consolation,” Sunday, April 23, 2006, guest soloists Kelley Nassief, soprano; Zheng Zhou, baritone of the University of Maine Singers, University of Maine Oratorio Society. The program is Johannes Brahms’ “Ein deutsches Requiem, op. 45 (German requiem).”

. 110th Season Finale, Sunday, May 21, 2006, guest soloists Henry Kramer and Pallavi Mahidhara playing Saint-Saens. The music is Bedrich Smetana’s “The Bartered Bride: Overture,” Camille Saint-Saens’ “Le Carnaval des animaux (Carnival of the Animals),” and Antonin Dvorak’s “Symphony no. 8, op. 88, G major.”

. Nutcracker at Borders, noon-4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 26, Borders Books and Music.
