Hampden police received a distress call Wednesday from a woman who said her former boyfriend had broken into her apartment and called her with a demand to come home.

Police arrived at the woman’s residence and found Oscar Hughes, 38, of Islesboro intoxicated. Hughes was out on bail for allegedly assaulting the woman last June.

Hampden police said that Hughes had “smashed in” the front door, stomped a telephone to pieces and hurled a desktop computer out a second-story window. Hughes was arrested and charged with criminal mischief and violation of bail conditions.
