Vaughan lifts Huskies to overtime victory

STANDISH – Kayla Vaughan scored in the second minute of overtime to lift the University of Southern Maine Huskies to a 2-1 college field hockey win over Saint Joseph’s College Thursday.

Samantha Johnson scored the first goal at 29:05 while Natalie Nimon didn’t make any saves on the one shot taken for 5-6 Southern Maine of Gorham.

Sarah Kay scored the tying goal at one with 7:00 left in regulation for 0-9 St. Joseph’s. Mandy Gosselin had nine saves on 16 shots.

Women’s soccer

UM-Machias 5, Unity 0

At Machias, Erin O’Callahan tallied three goals to help lead the University of Maine at Machias by Unity College.

Kristin Santillo added to the Clipper lead with a goal in the eighth minute, and four minutes later Lelia Schanck netted a goal.

Crystal Cameron was credited with four saves on eight shots for the 3-4-0 Clippers including a penalty kick attempt. Melissa Copa stopped eight of 23 shots for Unity.
