Penquis Community Action Program recently received a $61,220 grant from the Maine Juvenile Justice Advisory Group to offer the Youth Ideas Partnership Project in Piscataquis County. The project is a prevention program for adolescents 12-18 years old (grades six through 12) that uses community service, intergenerational bonding and skill building to increase youth protective factors. Penquis CAP will facilitate four youth groups in the county. Participating youth plan and design their own community service projects, or with caring adults in the community to further their goals and participate in communication and conflict resolution workshops to increase life skills. Youth groups are planned for the Dover-Foxcroft and Milo areas, though other locations may be considered based on interest. For information, call Cathy Hamel at 973-3617 or chamel@penquiscap.org.
