AUGUSTA – State Sen. Chandler Woodcock, R-Farmington, said Monday he has delayed his scheduled announcement to run for governor.

Last week, Woodcock filed papers with the Commission on Governmental Ethics and Election Practices indicating his intent to run for office.

Although he had planned to make a formal announcement Wednesday at the State House, Woodcock said Monday a last-minute scheduling change prevented the attendance of one of his supporters who was to speak at his event.

Woodcock said no date for his formal announcement has been scheduled, but assured reporters he will let them know as soon as new arrangements are made.

Woodcock’s entry would create a three-way GOP gubernatorial primary that includes Sen. Peter Mills, R-Cornville, and Steve Stimpson, of Bangor.

Former U.S. Rep. David Emery is also said to be seriously considering re-entering the race that he abandoned earlier this year when Peter Cianchette, the 2002 GOP gubernatorial candidate, announced his intention to run.

Cianchette, the former GOP front-runner in the 2006 race, pulled out last week citing family considerations.
