Police: Woman cashed neighbor’s check to pay rent

A 30-year-old Bangor woman told police Wednesday that she took a check from a neighbor’s mailbox and cashed it to pay her rent and electricity bill.

The woman was in the Bangor Police Department when Officer Marty McCrea confronted her with a copy of the stolen check that she had signed.

Initially denying the crime, Elaine Eldridge eventually admitted to the theft. She said she took the $569 check and gave it to her landlord for rent. She got $200 back from him and used that money to pay her electric bill. She was summoned on a charge of forgery.

Bangor police arrested a 42-year-old Fruit Street man on Tuesday after it was reported he assaulted his girlfriend in the presence of their two daughters.

The girlfriend told police that an argument with her long-time boyfriend, James Pullen, escalated to violence and that he slapped her in the face and pushed and pulled her several times.

The couple’s 15-year-old daughter told Bangor police Officer Kerry Libby that through the reflection in the kitchen window she saw her father slap her mother. The teenager then said she ran into her parents’ bedroom and called the police.

The couple’s 7-year-old daughter told Libby that she saw her dad grab her mother in the kitchen and that her dad wasn’t very nice to her mother. Pullen was charged with domestic violence.

A Limestone man was summoned Tuesday on a theft charge after it was reported he tried to steal a pink T-shirt from the recently opened Kohl’s store in Bangor.

Store officials reported that Jonathan Lopez, 19, of Limestone took an $18 T-shirt and shoved it down the front of his pants before leaving the store.
