Leighton sparks Ellsworth to win

ELLSWORTH – Chris Leighton took a pass from Pat Nabozny and drove it just inside the left post seven minutes into the second half to lift the Ellsworth Eagles to a 1-0 Class B schoolboy soccer win over George Stevens Academy Thursday.

Cory Smith made five saves on 10 shots for 8-4-1 Ellsworth.

Collin Henry stopped eight of 21 shots for the 8-3-3 Eagles of Blue Hill.

JV: Ellsworth 5-0

Calais 4, Shead 4 (2OT)

At Calais, Sean Cavanaugh’s goal with 16 seconds left in regulation time rallied the Blue Devils to a season-ending tie with Shead of Eastport.

Calais had a 3-1 halftime lead, but Shead used two goals by Aaron Sullivan and one by Chris Newman to take a 4-3 lead with 11 minutes left.

Mike Cummings gave Shead an early 1-0 lead, but Jacob Ludington scored twice and Adam Knowles scored once as the Blue Devils took a two-goal lead at intermission.

Scott Geel made 20 saves on 24 shots for 10-2-2 Calais. Brandon Laplante made 28 saves on 32 shots for 5-6-3 Shead.

DI-Stonington 8, J-B Royals 0

At Deer Isle, Bryant Ciomei and Rob Brown each had two goals and an assist for the host Mariners.

Miles Douglass added a goal and an assist for 5-9 Deer Isle-Stonington, while Carlos Garcia, Parker McDonald and Tabor Johnson each scored a goal and Collin Ciomei contributed an assist.

Brown and Eben Powers combined to make six saves on seven shots for the Mariners, which led just 2-0 at intermission.

Aaron Herzog made 19 saves on 28 shots for 1-12-1 Jonesport-Beals.

Lincoln Acad. 4, MCI 3

At Pittsfield, Sam Elmes scored a goal and assisted another to push Lincoln Academy of Newcastle past Maine Central Institute.

Will Goth, Lucas Scarsciotti, and David Thorpe each scored a goal for the 11-2-1 Eagles and Devon Peaslee had an assist. Kevin Conant made four saves on 10 shots.

Mark Trombley had a goal and an assist for 9-5 MCI. Trevin Ming and Brandon Glencross both added a goal. Tristan Goewey stopped five of 10 shots.

Greenville 4, Buckfield 0

At Greenville, Joe Jardine scored two goals and assisted on a third to lead Greenville to victory.

Corey Woodbury had a goal and an assist for 13-0 Greenville. Durgin McKusick scored a goal and Kyle Whitman had an assist. Brandon Lavigne stopped both shots for his sixth shutout.

Justin Dodge made 18 saves on 41 shots for 4-8 Buckfield.

Bangor 2, Old Town 0

At Bangor, Dylan George scored a goal and had an assist to lead Bangor past Old Town.

Zak Martin scored a goal for the 11-1-2 Rams and JoJo Hwalek had an assist. Austin Smith stopped four of seven shots.

Sam Petrie made seven saves on 15 shots for 4-10 Old Town.

JV: Bangor 14-0

Girls soccer

Calais 1, Woodland 1 (2OT)

At Calais, Darcey Gillespie scored on a direct kick with five minutes left in the second half to rally Calais to the tie.

Rachel Torrey had given Woodland a 1-0 lead with an unassisted goal with 2:55 left in the first half.

Steph Perry made 15 saves on 16 shots for 5-8-1 Calais, while Cindy Bergin made 10 saves on 11 shots for 5-5-3 Woodland.

Wash. Acad. 1, Narraguagus 0

At East Machias, Mary Mawhinney scored on a 30 yard kick with 23:24 left in the second half to lead Washington Academy to the win in their regular-season finale.

Megan Look made 11 saves on 17 shots for the 10-2 Raiders.

Samantha Baker stopped 11 of 20 shots for 6-4-2 Narraguagus of Harrington.

John Bapst 5, Hermon 0

At Hermon, Whitney Sinclair, Kari Habneeik and Hayley Cutri each had one goal and one assist to lead the Crusaders of Bangor to the win.

Amy Adams and Sarah Lammert added a goal apiece for 12-2 John Bapst. Caroline Carsling had two saves on four shots.

Ashley Kelley stopped 19 of 29 shots for 0-13-1 Hermon.

Bangor Chr. 3, Searsport 1

At Bangor, Amber Leathers scored all three goals to push Bangor Christian to the win.

Meredith French and Morgan Chasse each provided an assist for the 11-2 Patriots. Libbey Long made six saves on nine shots.

Annette Anderson scored an unassisted goal in the second half for 6-7 Searsport. April Pickering made 16 saves on 32 shots.

Rockland 2, Belfast 1

At Rockland, Baillie Boggs scored the game-winning goal with 10 minutes left in the first half to lead Rockland past Belfast.

Boggs also netted the first goal for 3-11 Rockland on a Brittany Benner assist with 32 minutes left in the first half. Allie Todd stopped 17 of 18 shots.

Sophie Scott scored with 12 minutes left in the first half for 9-4-1 Belfast. Katherine Kelly made four saves on seven shots.

Bangor 5, Old Town 0

At Old Town, Jessie Roberts scored two goals to lead Bangor to the win.

Amy Hackett scored a goal and assisted another for the 12-2 Rams. Casey Hartley and Courtney Stevenson each added a goal and Hannah Bennett had an assist. Ilyse Angst made six saves on nine shots.

Nicole Guay stopped 10 of 22 shots for 2-12 Old Town.

JV: Bangor 5-1

Ashland 5, Wisdom 2

At St. Agatha, Whitney Flint and Kasie Boyd each had two goals and an assist to help push Ashland to victory in a mutual regular-season finale.

Jacky Raymond added a goal and two assists for 11-1-2 Ashland, while Angela Belskis contributed an assist. Ashley Nemer made three saves on five shots for the Hornets.

Stephanie Turner and Sadi Dubois each scored a goal for 3-11 Wisdom and Justine Tardiff added an assist. Kayla Daigle stopped 21 of 26 shots for the Pioneers.

Lee 7, Penquis 0

At Milo, Karin Bird knocked in a pair of goals to lead Lee Academy past Penquis.

Aarika Ritchie scored one goal and dished out two assists for the Pandas. Marci Moors, Amanda Gifford and Jessica Arbo notched a goal apiece. Jackie Moors, who scored on a penalty kick, had two saves on seven shots.

Kylie Palmer, Johannah Kutz and Shelisha Clark combined for 12 saves on 19 shots for the Patriots.

Limestone 4, Fort Fairfield 2

At Fort Fairfield, Lee Anne Kelly scored twice to push Limestone to the win.

Logan Cousins and Sheena Page both added a goal for Limestone and Ellie Dunn had an assist. Melanie Allen stopped seven of 12 shots.

Sadie Ayoob and Maryl Shaw each scored a goal for Fort Fairfield. Kerri Cunningham had an assist as Lauren Beckwith and Kelsey York combined to make 12 saves on 21 shots.
