A rental camp owned by Katahdin Forest Management LLC on Sunday Pond in Township 2 Range 9 was badly damaged by vandals within the past week. Windows were smashed, furniture was trashed, and fixtures were destroyed, resulting in “thousands of dollars” in damage, according to Investigator Allen Emerson of the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Department. Beer cans were strewn about the camp. It appears that the damage occurred over the weekend and involved at least three or four people, Emerson said Thursday. The camp last was checked on Oct. 6, and the damage was discovered on Oct. 11. Emerson said the camp was rented out by the management company to hunters, hikers and fishermen.
