DURHAM, N.H. – Kim MacDonald’s breakaway goal in overtime lifted the University of Maine field hockey team to a 3-2 victory over New Hampshire Friday afternoon in college action.
Katy LePage scored off a Kasey Spencer assist for the Black Bears and Spencer scored a goal of her own off a MacDonald penalty corner. Rebecca Giroux stopped six of 16 shots for 9-5 Maine.
Katie White and Shauna Sellenger scored second-half goals for the 5-10 Wildcats. Margaux Shute made five saves on 10 shots.
Women’s soccer
Maine 6, Albany 1
At Albany, N.Y., Marie-Andree Canuel scored three goals and contributed an assist as the Black Bears rolled.
Erin Corey, Elisa Tebbetts and Heather Hathorn each added a goal for 9-4-1 Maine. Maureen McHugh and Brittany Saisselin each had an assist. Tanya Adorno stopped two of five shots.
Nicole Hercules scored for the 1-15 Great Danes. Andrea Dunn and Liz Hanley combined for 10 saves on 21 shots.
Volleyball
Binghamton defeats Maine 3-2
At Vestal, N.Y., the Bearcats rallied from a loss in the first game to win two in a row, and then took the final game to tip the Black Bears 20-30, 30-20, 30-27, 28-30, 15-11. Maine’s loss was its first in America East play this season (3-1).
Katie Brody led 13-9 Binghamton with 19 digs and 18 kills. Ashley Meffert had 49 assists.
Shelly Seipp led 6-9 Maine with 60 assists and 12 digs. Shannan Fotter had 21 kills and Jody Connacher racked up 18 digs.
