GRAY – Mainers who endured 7 to 9 inches of rain last weekend will get another dose of rain this weekend, but there were no immediate worries of substantial flooding, officials said Friday.
Rain was moving into western and central Maine on Friday, and heavy rain was expected from Friday evening through late Saturday, said Jim Mansfield of the National Weather Service.
He estimated the state would see 2 to 4 inches by the time the rain dies down.
The Maine Emergency Management Agency held a conference call with National Weather Service forecasters Thursday and the report was good compared to last weekend.
“At one point, it looked scary. But the way it’s looking now, we’re relieved,” said MEMA spokeswoman Lynette Miller. The ground should be able to absorb 2 to 4 inches of rain as long as it doesn’t all come at once, she said.
The unsettled weather will continue for the next few days, Mansfield said. Looking ahead, he says there’s a possibility of nice weather next weekend.
