Markie leads Lynx past John Bapst

BANGOR – Duncan Markie rushed for 146 yards on 24 carries and scored a pair of touchdowns as the Mattanawcook Academy Lynx defeated the John Bapst Crusaders 24-0 in high school football action Saturday night.

Markie also had an 18-yard pass reception and made some key punt returns to provide the Lynx good field position on the sloppy terrain.

Dylan Hanscom hit Shey Gardner with a 15 yard TD pass in the first quarter to give MA a 6-0 lead.

Markie then scored on runs of 53 yards in the third quarter and 2 yards in the fourth quarter before Jesse Birmingham capped off the scoring on a 3-yard run.

The Lynx defense limited John Bapst of Bangor to 37 yards of total offense.

Dexter 16, Traip Acad. 6

At Dexter, first-half touchdowns by Billy Greene and Mike Lockhart lifted the Tigers to their second victory of the season and sent Traip Academy of Kittery to its 44th consecutive loss.

Greene scored on a 5-yard run in the first quarter, and Cory Willey added the two-point conversion rush to give Dexter an 8-0 lead.

Traip closed within 8-6 in the second quarter on a 15-yard run by Nate Cairo, but Dexter got a 2-yard TD run by Lockhart and a two-point conversion pass from Steve Robinson to Jason Gould to take a 10-point halftime lead.

Lockhart finished with 105 rushing yards on 24 carries, while Greene added 46 rushing yards and Robinson completed seven passes for 75 yards.

Cairo rushed for 111 yards on 19 carries for Traip.

Belfast 26, MDI 0

At Bar Harbor, senior tailback Sean Leeman rushed for 201 yards on 31 carries and scored three touchdowns as Belfast improved to 5-2.

Leeman scored on runs of 4, 56 and 3 yards for the Lions, who host Brewer on Friday night.

Senior quarterback Andy Whalen added 52 rushing yards on 11 carries, and scored on a 5-yard run. Whalen also completed 6 of 8 passes for 86 yards.

Belfast finished with 407 yards of total offense, and held Mount Desert Island to 62 total yards.

Bangor Christian 7, Schenck 1

At Bangor on Friday, Ignacio Bustos scored three goals, raising his total to 28 for the regular season, for the undefeated Patriots.

Micah Dougherty scored two goals, while Josh Griffin and Dan Dorman also added scores. Brock Bradford had four assists for 14-0 Bangor Christian.

Senior Shawn Landry scored his first career goal for Schenck on an assist from Jordan Pelkey in the second half. Lanny Thompson made 23 saves on 43 shots for 4-9-1 Schenck.

Josh Frost saved three of eight shots for the Patriots.

Houlton 3, Fort Kent 2

At Fort Kent on Friday, Jordan Gard scored a goal and assisted on another to lead Houlton to the win.

Ben Austin and Ian Pasquarelli each added a goal for 4-9-1 Houlton. Sharif Abouleish had an assist. Eben Thompson made five saves on nine shots.

Derek Bonefent and Kelly Thibodeau each had a goal for 4-8-2 Fort Kent. Matt Harvey stopped eight of 12 shots.
