BREWSTER, Mass. – Husson College’s Ross McGee shot a 1-under-par 71 to help the Eagles place sixth after the first round of the New England Interscholastic Golf Association Championships at Captains Golf Course Monday.
Husson compiled a 313, 18 strokes behind leader University of Rhode Island’s 295. Dartmouth and Brown are tied for second at 302, followed by the University of Connecticut (303) and Central Connecticut State University (307).
Lance Libby and John Ellis each recorded an 80 while Adam Duplisea carded an 82 to round out the Husson scoring.
Also recording a strong round was University of Southern Maine golfer Jim Frost, who finished at 4-over 76. USM is tied for 20th in the 45-team field at 327 with Joe Hamilton and George Shabo each notching an 82 and Greg Mitchell an 87.
Saint Joseph’s College of Standish is 33rd (340) and Bates College of Lewiston 44th (356).
Alex Jacobson’s 83 led Bates while Chris Deroche’s 84 paced Saint Joseph’s.
The two-round tourney concludes today.
Men’s soccer
Plymouth St. 2, USM 2 (2OT)
At Gorham, Bryan Biederman scored with 1:19 left in regulation to rally the Panthers to the tie.
9-1-3 Plymouth State’s other goal was an own-goal by Southern Maine, now 3-7-3. Tyler Shute had four saves on 13 shots.
Sinisa Bajic scored both goals for the Huskies. Chris Willard stopped six of 17 shots.
Field hockey
Becker 3, St. Joseph’s 0
At Standish, Elizabeth Hatheway tallied a goal and two assists as Becker shut out the Monks.
Jenny Boggess and Kaitlyn Gramstorff each added a goal for the 6-7 winners. Boggess also recorded an assist on Hatheway’s goal.
Michelle DeSantis made eight saves on 19 shots for Becker. Kelsey Moody stopped 14 of 25 shots for 0-10 St. Joseph’s.
