Park commissioners cement LNG position

CAMPOBELLO ISLAND, New Brunswick – The commissioners of the Roosevelt Campobello International Park are contacting Canadian leadership to restate their opposition to proposals for liquefied natural gas facilities sited in neighboring Washington County.

With one abstention, members of the commission are supporting a letter addressed to Canada’s minister of foreign affairs that is being mailed to Ottawa this week.

The commission communicated its position to Pierre Pettigrew in April concerning the LNG terminal proposed for Passamaquoddy tribal lands at Pleasant Point by Quoddy Bay LLC, an Oklahoma developer.

The position has not changed, but members’ concern has grown, the October letter states. The emergence since July of at least two more LNG developers that want to locate LNG sites up and down Passamaquoddy Bay, from Lubec to Calais, has only heightened the commission’s awareness.
