OLD TOWN – State Sen. Elizabeth M. Schneider participated in a special ceremony honoring the achievements of six Girl Scouts on Oct. 14. The girls reached the highest award level for a Cadette Girl Scout, the Silver Award. As members of the Abnaki Girl Scout Council, the Cadettes are among the fewer than 75 who receive such recognition each year.
Schneider presented each Silver Award honoree – Amanda Livingston, Chelsea Sullivan, Emily Yates and Molly Segee of Old Town, and Danyle Boobar of Stillwater, with a Legislative Sentiment and a letter from Gov. John E. Baldacci. Both documents congratulated them on attaining the prestigious Girl Scout Silver Award.
Hannah Morin also was honored. Her mother participated on behalf of Morin, who could not attend due to an illness.
Schneider addressed a packed house of Girl Scout supporters at the Old Town United Methodist Church.
“It is with help and support from family and friends the girls have been able to reach their goal and attain this important award,” Schneider said. “The girls have learned valuable skills, worked to improve our community and have had a good time together in the process. Each Cadette is developing a solid foundation for the future and an understanding of what it takes to be a good leader. Not only do I recognize the girls’ high achievement and congratulate them, the state of Maine does as well.”
The Abnaki Girl Scout Council area comprises six counties in Maine.
