BREWER – Ten Bucks Theatre Co. Inc. is going where it has never gone before. For the first time in its five-year existence, Ten Bucks is producing a musical.

The stage at Brewer Middle School will be taken over by Joshua Schmersal, Dominick Varney and Philip Burns beginning Friday, Oct. 28. The three men will try to convince an audience of potential backers to invest in their new Broadway-bound musical, “The Big Bang.”

To date, “The Big Bang” is the most expensive and lavish musical ever written. With a budget of $83 million, the show depicts the entire history of the world from the formation of the planets to present day.

So what’s the catch? Instead of a cast of 318 portraying characters that include Adam and Eve, Nefertiti and the slaves, Caesar, Mrs. Gandhi, Attila the Hun, Columbus, Minnehaha, Tokyo Rose and Eva Braun – to name but a few – Schmersal and Varney will portray them all.

With music by Jed Feuer, book and lyrics by Boyd Graham, and musical direction and accompaniment by Philip Burns, it is highly probable that the Brewer Middle School will never be the same.

“The Big Bang” is for mature audiences only.

The show runs 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Oct. 28-29; 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Nov. 4-5; and 2 p.m. Sundays, Oct. 30 and Nov. 6. General admission is $10, $5 for students. College students must show a student ID.

There will be a “talk back” with the actors after the Oct. 30 matinee and after the Nov. 5 evening show.
