ORONO – Kristin Johnson was named the assistant softball coach for the University of Maine.

Johnson had served in a similar role for two seasons at the University of Iowa in the Big Ten Conference. She also played for the Akron Racers of the National Pro Fastpitch League, helping lead the team to the 2005 league championship.

She played at Iowa and earned All-America honors in 2002-03 and helped lead the Hawkeyes to a spot in the 2001 College World Series. Johnson was also named the 2003 University of Iowa Female Athlete of the Year after her senior year.
