Eagles blank Windjammers Maggie Seavey scores twice to lead Ellsworth

ELLSWORTH – Maggie Seavey scored a pair of goals as the No. 4 Ellsworth Eagles shut out the No. 5 Camden Hills Windjammers 4-0 in a Class B schoolgirl soccer quarterfinal Friday.

Cassie Cloak and Casey Wyman scored unassisted goals to give Ellsworth a 2-0 halftime lead. Seavey made it 3-0 in the second half on a direct kick, then scored off an indirect kick by Anna Briggs for the game’s final goal.

Catie Cravens stopped both shots she faced for 12-2-1 Ellsworth. Jessie Colson made nine saves on 16 shots for 9-5-1 Camden Hills.

Class B

Presque Isle 3, Bucksport 0

At Presque Isle, Molly Hamel and Allisen Donovan combined for the shutout, saving nine of 11 shots as the No. 2 Wildcats blanked the No. 7 Golden Bucks.

Angela Norsworthy had an unassisted goal and one assist, while Kayla Legassie and Sarah Porter also had scores for 15-0 Presque Isle.

Katie Hurd stopped 15 of 21 shots for 7-6-3 Bucksport.

John Bapst 3, Belfast 0

At Pendleton Street Field in Brewer, Megan Pritham and Whitney Sinclair scored first-half goals to lead the No. 3 Crusaders into the semifinals.

Sinclair added an assist for 13-2 John Bapst of Bangor, while Kristina Hambrock scored off a Kari Havnevik assist. Caroline Cassling made two saves on four shots.

Katherine Kelly made six saves on 14 shots for the No. 6 Lions, who wound up 9-5-1.

Winslow 4, Medomak 0

At Winslow, Meryl McLellan scored a goal and had an assist to help lead No. 1 Winslow past No. 8 Medomak of Waldoboro.

Katie Caron, Chelsea Carrier and Sara Lane each scored a goal for 14-0-1 Winslow. Hannah Brazier made two saves on three shots.

Rachel Keefe stopped nine of 17 shots for the 8-7-1 Panthers.

Class A

Messalonskee 1, Hampden 0

At Oakland, Heidi Stucki scored on a header with 24:50 left in the first half, helping the No. 2 Eagles beat the No. 7 Broncos.

Katie O’Leary made eight saves on 15 shots, earning the shuout for 12-0-3 Messalonskee.

Michelle Wells saved six of 20 shots for Hampden, which finished at 12-3-1.

Class C

Fort Kent 1, WA Raiders 0

At East Machias, Kasey Pelletier’s goal eight minutes into the game was enough to lift No. 5 Fort Kent past No. 4 Washington Academy.

The Warriors will face rival Madawaska Tuesday in the semifinal round.

Pelletier lined up a rebound and one-touched it from the left side eight minutes into the game. Kelsie Bouchard made it stand up with 15 saves on 20 shots for the 10-5 Warriors.

Megan Look made 17 saves on 30 shots for the Raiders, who finished 10-3.

Madawaska 4, Central 1

At Madawaska, Beth Gerard scored two goals and had one assist as the No. 1 Owls rolled over the No. 8 Red Devils.

Ashley Cyr and Sarah Nadeau each added a goal. Liz Laplante and Stephanie Nadeau combined to make five saves on 10 shots for 13-2 Madawaska.

Danielle Martin put 6-9-1 Central of Corinth on the board with one minute remaining in the game. Kimberly LeBlanc stopped 13 of 25 shots.

Orono 1, Houlton 0

At Orono, Kate Kirby scored the game-winning goal with six minutes to play in the first period as the No. 1 Riots advanced past the No. 10 Shiretowners.

Lindsey Colbath picked up the assist on Kirby’s 10-yard boot. Heather Woodbrey earned the shutout for 14-0-1 Orono, saving four of seven shots.

Bethany Targonski made 14 saves on 21 shots for 5-10 Houlton.

George Stevens 3, PVHS 1

At Blue Hill, Emily Peake scored back-to-back goals in the first half to help lift the No. 3 Eagles past the No. 6 Howlers.

GSA’s final goal came from Robin Rioux with five minutes go in the game. Liz Moran, Winslow Brokaw and Britnay Olivari each had an assist for the 9-3-2 Eagles. Kayla Eaton saved eight of 11 shots.

Molly Woodard responded with a goal midway through the first half for the 9-5-1 Howlers of Howland. Jenn Plourde made 12 saves on 16 shots.

Class D

Ashland 2, Van Buren 1

At Ashland, senior right midfielder Mea Richmond scored her first career goal and Kasie Boyd notched what proved to be the game-winner five minutes later as No. 4 Ashland gave 24-year head coach Bill Nemer his 200th career win.

Angela Belskis and Jacky Raymond had assists for the Hornets, who are now 12-1-2 after avenging their only loss and one of their ties. Ashley Nemer made six saves.

Taylor Parent scored for the No. 5 Crusaders, who finished at 5-6-5. Lisa Levasseur made six saves.

Bangor Christian 5, Woodland 3

At Bangor, the No. 3 Patriots jumped out to a 3-0 halftime lead to earn their first-ever semifinal berth.

Morgan Chasse scored two goals and Kelly Miller, A.J. Ricci and Amber Leathers had one each for 13-2 Bangor Christian. Brooke Hale had two assists and Christin Pelletier one.

Libbey Long made seven saves on 12 shots for Bangor Christian.

Lacy Gillespie scored twice and Heidi Sappier once for the No. 6 Dragons, who ended at 7-6-3. Cindy Bergin made 18 saves on 40 shots.

Lee 2, Washburn 0

At Lee, Amanda Gifford scored with 21:43 left in the second half to push No. 1 Lee to the win over No. 8 Washburn.

Marci Moors added a goal with 4:41 left for the 15-0 Pandas. Aarika Ritchie assisted both goals while Jackie Moors stopped all three shots.

Amber Palmer made 19 saves on 33 shots for the 9-6-1 Beavers.

Limestone 4, Fort Fairfield 3

At Limestone, Kellie Peers scored the winning goal with 1:31 left in regulation to lead No. 2 Limestone/Maine School of Science and Mathematics past No. 7 Fort Fairfield.

Logan Cousins scored twice for the 10-3-2 Eagles. Brittany King had a goal and an assist and Ellie Dunn had an assist. Melanie Allen stopped nine of 13 shots.

Kerri Cunningham scored two goals for the 10-4-2 Tigers. Sheena Esancy added a goal and Sadie Ayoob had three assists. Lauren Beckwith made seven saves on 10 shots.

Field hockey

Class C

Stearns 2, Dexter 0

At Dexter, Felicia Achorn scored on a Hilary Arsenault assist with 11:30 left in the first half to lead No. 3 Stearns of Millinocket past No. 2 Dexter.

Amy Collinsworth added an insurance goal on a Casey Levasseur assist with 15:44 left in the second half for 12-4 Stearns. Deanna Michaud made five saves on seven shots.

Katie Poirier stopped 10 of 12 shots for 11-4-1 Dexter.

Boys soccer

Class D

Lee 6, Woodland 0

At Lee, Drew Pickering scored three goals as the Pandas earned the shutout victory.

Min Gu Rhee added a goal and an assist for No. 4 Lee, while Yun Jung and Doob Dow also scored goals. Peter Pickering, Dean McDonald, and Everett Houghton each contributed an assist.

Kris King made four saves on seven shots for 12-4 Lee. Craig Moody and Todd Townsend combined to make 21 saves on 37 shots for No. 5 Woodland, which ended its season at 11-4.
