Wife cited in tiff with spouse

A Bangor woman received a summons for criminal mischief and assault Friday night after an altercation with her husband, police said.

According to reports, Officer Steve Jordan of the Bangor Police Department responded to the call at around 10 p.m. Friday from 207 Bolling Drive, where he was met by the victim. The victim said he had returned to his wife’s apartment to get some of his things, and said she smashed his cable box and punched him in the mouth. The victim’s lip was reportedly swollen and bleeding.

Jordan went inside and spoke with April Stevens, 38, of Bangor, who said that her husband had become verbally aggressive toward her and called her offensive names. She threw the cable box to the floor, and then punched him in the mouth, because she reportedly said “he would not shut up.”

Stevens was issued a summons for criminal mischief and assault, and the alleged victim safely left the premises.

Officer Jason Stuart of the Bangor Police Department arrested a Carmel man after he reportedly pulled an unloaded gun on a Bangor resident.

At around 2 a.m. Saturday, Stuart was en route to 26 Autumn St. to investigate a report of a man who was wanted out of a residence. Dispatch reportedly informed Stuart that the suspect may have had a gun. Stuart was met outside by a group of people who said the suspect’s gun was on the front lawn. He said he retrieved from the lawn a .45-caliber Colt pistol that was not loaded.

Stuart entered the apartment and saw the alleged victim holding Dale Leavitt, 45, of Carmel in a headlock. The victim told Stuart that Leavitt had pulled a gun on him. Officer Shawn Green arrived as backup, and the two handcuffed Leavitt and led him downstairs.

Stuart said he spoke with two people who witnessed the events. One of the individuals, the resident of the apartment, said he heard a commotion and went outside to see what was going on. He reportedly saw Leavitt and the victim struggling on the ground, fighting over a crowbar. He said he saw Leavitt reach into his pocket and pull out a gun. Leavitt then let go of the gun, and another witness picked up the weapon and put it on the lawn.

Stuart then reportedly spoke with Leavitt, who said he had picked up two females and drove them to Autumn Street. They told Leavitt to wait outside in his car and that they would be right back. After 20 minutes Leavitt allegedly said he got concerned and decided to go inside and bring his gun with him. He removed the magazine and put the gun in his pocket, and then entered the apartment. He said the victim came toward him, threatening him with a crowbar, so Leavitt pulled out the gun and pointed it at him.

Leavitt was arrested for criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon and was transported to Penobscot County Jail. Stuart found a shotgun, a .22-caliber pistol, a .45-caliber pistol and boxes of ammunition in Leavitt’s truck, and confiscated the weapons and bullets for evidence, police said.
