Stockton man held in handgun incident

STOCKTON SPRINGS – A local man was arrested Monday morning after allegedly pointing a handgun at a female acquaintance.

Gregory McKillip, 58, was charged with criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon after the 7:06 a.m. incident. He was being held at Waldo County Jail on $7,500 bail.

Waldo County Chief Deputy Robert Keating said the Sheriff’s Department was alerted by a sister of the alleged victim. The woman called the communications center to report that McKillip had pointed a handgun at the female victim’s head. No shots were fired. When Deputy Merl Reed arrived he was told McKillip had left the Route 1 home where the incident allegedly took place and was in a nearby workshop.

Using his cruiser’s public address system, Reed ordered McKillip to leave the shed with his hands raised. McKillip stepped outside after Reed repeated the order four times. A 9 mm handgun was confiscated at the scene by Reed. McKillip was placed under arrest without incident and taken to jail.

Keating, Detective Greg Stearns and Searsport Police Chief Mark Pooler assisted with the investigation.
