Court clerks’ offices and courtrooms throughout the state will be closed to the public from 8 a.m. to noon each day next week, Oct. 31 through Nov. 4.

Doors will be locked and phones will go unanswered during the morning hours so that employees can catch up on paperwork, Ted Glessner, state court administrator, said Tuesday.

Judges will be working, but court sessions will be convened only for emergency matters.

“We’ve done this for a couple of years now, and it proves to be invaluable,” Glessner said.

The last administrative week was held in March.

Due to staffing shortages and inadequate state budget resources, clerks often can complete only essential paperwork in a timely fashion, according to Glessner.

The two administrative weeks have allowed clerks around the state to catch up on necessary paperwork.

Tasks on which clerks will work next week include: reviewing outstanding warrants to make sure information such as addresses are current; docketing information in ongoing cases; reviewing financial files to see that fines owed the court are being paid; and reviewing records concerning the suspension and reinstatement of driver’s licenses.

The clerks’ offices will open for business at noon next week.
