Pair in fair condition after Waldoboro crash

WALDOBORO – A Friendship man and a Rockland woman injured in a one-vehicle crash Wednesday evening were in fair condition Thursday at Maine Medical Center in Portland, according to a nursing supervisor.

Daniel Reed Sr., 49, and Tina Barrett, 32, were initially taken by ambulance to Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta, where they were stabilized, then transferred to Portland, police Sgt. Michael Middaugh said Thursday.

The 1992 Mazda Protege that Reed was driving was heading south on Route 220 about 5:15 p.m. when it left the road, hit a utility pole and then several trees.

Reed and Barrett had to be extricated from the vehicle by Waldoboro Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel.

It is unknown if they were wearing seat belts, the sergeant said, noting the accident is still being reconstructed.

Middaugh could not provide further details, saying the accident is still under investigation by Officer Jamie Wilson and Maine State Police Trooper Terry Michaud.
