Before the premiere even hits television screens, there are some shows that are destined to flop. Bravo’s new “Party/Party” is one of them.
In the new eight-part, one-hour reality series, Bravo follows 16 families as they plan the party of a lifetime, and money doesn’t seem to be an issue. Parties range from the wedding ceremony of reunited childhood sweethearts to the grandest bat mitzvah to a graduation celebration. The worst, however, likely will be a child’s birthday party.
As little girls, some of us dream of a horse-drawn carriage carrying us off into the sunset with the one we love after our princess-style wedding. Others don’t have to dream, because Bravo shows us that the dreams of some little girls come true early with their 5th birthday party, a $10,000 princess party comes complete with horse-drawn Cinderella carriage.
Perhaps it’s only because I’m jealous and slightly bitter, but I’ll be skipping that episode.
Somewhere out there I’m sure there’s a party planner who will tune in to see if he or she can snag an idea, but the average viewer is more likely to click on by.
“Party/Party” premieres at 9 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6.
A colleague recently asked if I had ever seen “Dog the Bounty Hunter,” a reality series on A&E. Indeed I have, and although slightly embarrassed to admit it, I enjoy watching once in a while.
Real-life bounty hunter Duane “Dog” Chapman, his family and friends appear in the show as Dog goes searching for wanted fugitives. Dog has captured more than 6,000 derelicts in his 27-year career and has some stories to tell.
Particularly one about himself. Although Dog has made right with the law and is a reformed and upstanding citizen, he once spent time in a Texas prison for first-degree murder.
But my favorite cast member is Dog’s wife, Beth, who looks like a dominatrix but is an active political figure with the goal of raising awareness to the justice system.
Add their children to the mix, and you’ve got quite a cast of characters that make this one work.
“Dog the Bounty Hunter” can be seen on A&E at 9 p.m. Tuesdays.
