ORONO – Vanessa Vani, Danielle Tangredi and Sheri Wauters each scored two goals as the University of Maine women’s hockey team rolled to a 12-1 victory over Sacred Heart University Friday night at Alfond Arena.
Maine outshot Sacred Heart 45-10.
Julie Poulin, Cheryl White, Karine Senecal, Sonia Corriveau, Brigitte Laflamme and Jenna Cowan each added a goal for the 4-2-1 Black Bears. Genevieve Turgeon made nine saves.
Jessica Felt scored the goal for 0-3-1 Sacred Heart and Stephanie Boulay (30) and Sarah Perry (3) combined for 33 saves.
The two teams play again Saturday at 2 p.m.

UNH 4, UMass 1
AMHERST, Mass. – Brian Yandle had two assists, including one on Brett Hemmingway’s empty-net shot with 1:54 remaining in the final period, as New Hampshire defeated Massachusetts 4-1 Friday night in their Hockey East opener.
Daniel Winnik gave the Wildcats a 1-0 lead on a power play with 17:07 remaining in the opening period, and three minutes later Mike Kosta tied the game for UMass.
Matt Fornaturo put New Hampshire in front again in the second period with an assist from Yandle, and Andrew Leach made it 3-1 in the opening minutes of the third.
