A 20-year-old-man who was trying to get into a residence near the University of Maine campus late Monday night was arrested for disorderly conduct and attempted criminal trespassing.
A female resident of Talmar Wood, an apartment complex on Park Street, called police around 11 p.m. to report that a man had knocked on her door.
The woman told police that the man, later identified as Nicholas Dawes of Salisbury Cove, growled and barked at her when she opened the door. She also claimed that Dawes said, “I know you’re in there,” after she closed the door and alerted police.
Dawes could not tell police what he was doing at the woman’s apartment, but police said he was extremely intoxicated. He was arrested and taken to Penobscot County Jail.
