WATERVILLE – Colby College has launched a pilot program involving the use of disciplinary points as a way to deal with alcohol-related offenses by students.
The program is modeled on the driver’s license system in which motorists accrue a specified number of points for committing a range of violations.
A Colby student gets one point, for example, for underage possession of alcohol, two points for trying to buy alcohol with false identification, three points for disorderly behavior involving alcohol and five points for aggravated drunken driving or a drinking-related assault.
Once a student compiles three points, disciplinary measures include probation, community service on campus and possible parental notification.
