FORT KENT – A home, where no one was living at the time, was destroyed by fire of unknown origin Tuesday night on the Sly Brook Road.

The interior of the home, owned by Richard Orr of Maryland, was gutted and the roof of the one-story home was burned.

Fire Chief David Pelletier said the insured loss could be some $70,000.

Firefighters received the call at about 10:45 p.m. The home was engulfed when firefighters arrived.

A neighbor had reported the fire.

Twenty-three firefighters brought down the blaze in less than half an hour, but they were at the scene mopping up until nearly 3 a.m.

The prefabricated home on a full foundation was installed a couple of years ago, Pelletier said. Orr was not at the home at the time of the fire. He was informed of the loss Wednesday morning.

Pelletier said his firefighters had no problems at the scene and there were no injuries.
