BOSTON – University of Maine field hockey coach Terry Kix was named America East coach of the year for the fourth time and Black Bear senior Meagan Connolly was named the league’s defensive player of the year at league’s awards banquet Thursday night.

Kix, now in her 15th year at Maine, has led the Bears to a 12-6 record, including a 4-1 league mark and No. 2 seeding for America East tourney.

Connolly was also named to the league’s first team and has started in all 16 games with two goals and three assists.

Maine senior Kasey Spencer also earned a first-team selection while freshman Kim MacDonald, junior Joanna Fernandes and senior Shaunessy Saucier received second-team honors for the Black Bears.

MacDonald and freshman Katy LePage were also named to the league’s all-rookie team.

Boston University’s Sarah Shute of Lincolnville was named the offensive player of the year and teammate Holly Wiles was named the rookie of the year.
