Two high school soccer players from Presque Isle and two from Madawaska are among the nine to receive annual “Butch” Shaw Awards, which are given for outstanding soccer play from the Maine Board of Approved Soccer Officials.

Presque Isle’s Nate Carter and Kylan Smith have received the award in Class B along with Madawaska’s Billy Roy and Beth Gerard in Class C.

Also receiving the award are Caribou’s Makayla Gahagan in Class B, and Ashland’s Sam Cobb, Washburn’s Zach Bird, Limestone’s Ellie Dunn and Van Buren’s Megan Lajoie in Class D.

The award is named in memory of Clyde “Butch” Shaw, a former outstanding athlete, coach and official from Aroostook County. He died in 1985.
