Dexter senior Sabrina Cote was named the girls state winner of the Wendy’s High School Heisman, while Morse of Bath’s Luke Trafton earned the boys state award.
Cote, who plays soccer, basketball, and softball and participates in outdoor track and field for the Tigers, was a member of Dexter’s 2004 Class C state basketball championship team and the 2005 Eastern Maine Class C title squad. She was a Penobscot Valley Conference all-star and a member of the Eastern Maine Class C all-tourney team.
Trafton runs cross country and participates in swimming for the Shipbuilders.
Finalists for the state award included Katie Delong and Brendon Esquibel of Presque Isle, Nokomis of Newport’s Rozlyn Peterson, William Hinkley of Bangor Christian, John Bapst of Bangor’s Ryan Lena, Central Aroostook of Mars Hill’s Andrew York, Joseph Predham of Camden Hills, and Bangor’s Ben Estabrook.
The annual award honors high school seniors who excel in athletics, academics, and community service.
