LAS VEGAS – Melvin Guillard of Utah defeated Bangor native and fellow The Ultimate Fighter Season 2 participant Marcus Davis by technical knockout in the second round of their Ultimate Fighting Championship undercard welterweight match Saturday night in Las Vegas.

After almost ending the bout with a guillotine choke of Davis in the first round, Guillard got Davis on the mat. He then used a series of elbow strikes, cutting Davis over the left eye 2 minutes, 55 seconds into the round. The fight was halted on advice from the ringside physician, and Guillard had his first UFC win. Guillard is now 37-5-3 in mixed martial arts bouts while Davis is 9-3.

Davis’ match preceded two championship bouts which served as the live finale of TUF’s Season 2 series, which was televised by Spike-TV and will be rerun Monday at 11 p.m.
