CONCORD, N.H. – The New Hampshire Supreme Court has suspended the license of a Maine lawyer who was convicted in September of operating a brothel and conspiring to launder millions of dollars in profits it generated.

Gary Reiner had kept his license to practice law in New Hampshire while he faced the criminal charges stemming from a raid on the Danish Health Club in Kittery.

But the court now says suspending Reiner’s license is necessary to protect the public and preserve the integrity of the legal profession.

Reiner, a former chairman of the Kittery Town Council, faces up to 20 years in prison and fines up to $250,000. His lawyers argued that Reiner only acted as an attorney for the club.
