Registrations are being accepted for Arcady Music Society’s 10th Fiddle Festival which will be held 1:30-4:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, at Hampden Academy.

The workshop, led by master fiddler Greg Boardman of Auburn, is open to violists, cellists and bass players of all ages.

The workshop is followed by a traditional Country Supper at 5 p.m. and a Country Dance, with music provided by Boardman and workshop participants.

Arcady artistic and executive director Dean Stein reports that registration for the full day of activities is $20, and can be made by visiting www.arcady.org, e-mailing arcady@arcady.org or calling 669-4225.

It should be noted that while this event is usually held in the spring, this workshop has proved to be so popular that Arcady has expanded it to twice a year.

On behalf of the McGraw School PTO in Hampden, Diane Dashiell-Ireland invites you to “Walk a Foot in Another School’s Shoes,” as kindergartners through second-graders collect several feet of quarters to help an elementary school in Hackberry, La., that was damaged by Hurricane Rita.

To assist students fill a personalized footprint with a foot of quarters, funds will be collected between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11, at Wal-Mart Supercenter in Brewer.

A cookout from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. that day at Wal-Mart, assisted by Sam’s, Shaw’s Country Kitchen, Graves Supermarkets and Pepsi, also will help fund this project.

The collection continues through Friday, Nov. 18, and donations are welcome.

Helen Willey reminds readers the Grace United Methodist Church Spirit of Christmas Fair is 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, at the church on Union Street in Bangor.

You can purchase knit goods, blankets, decorations, jewelry, cheese and order wreaths at this fair that features two luncheon offerings.

Admission to the fair is free, and you can choose either a hot turkey sandwich luncheon for $6.50 or hot dogs for $3.50, both served with all the fixings.

Two local B&Bs invite you to attend an open house and view the renovated facilities while you are out and about this weekend.

The Old Winterport Commercial House will hold its open house 9 a.m.-7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11, through Sunday, Nov. 13, at 114 Main St. in Winterport.

Refreshments will be served, and you also are invited to browse through the antique shop during those hours.

You also can “Experience the Elegance” at Mermaid Cove Inn at that open house 2-6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11, and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday Nov. 12, at 127 Main St. in Winterport.

Alex Turallo and members of Zonta Club of Bangor invite you to their 27th annual Holiday Marketplace 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, and 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13, at Brewer Auditorium on Wilson Street.

Sharon Leavitt is chairperson of the event that is boasting a 25 percent increase over last year in registered vendors, offering a delightful array of crafts and products.

The cafe will be open throughout the day for your munching and lunching pleasure, and door prizes will be awarded each day.

Among those prizes are weekend getaways, restaurant gift certificates and a special Maine Discovery Museum package.

Proceeds are used for local scholarships and service projects, and to help needy families during the holidays.

A special display of military memorabilia, including World War I souvenirs and keepsakes from Operation Iraqi Freedom, courtesy of U.S. Navy veteran Helen King of Skowhegan, highlights the Skowhegan-Madison Elks Lodge Benefit Spaghetti Dinner 5-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11, at the Elks Lodge on Silver Street in Skowhegan.

Donation for the supper is $6 for adults, $3 for children 6-12, free for those 6 and under.

Open to the public and hosted by the lodge’s Veterans National Service Committee, all proceeds will be donated to the Louisiana and Mississippi Elks Associations to assist veterans of that flood-stricken area.
