Bangor police arrested a local man late Friday when his former girlfriend reported he had broken into her home.
The woman came home to find her door kicked in and her boyfriend on the edge of her Kittredge Road property with her two dogs, police said. He left on a motorcycle, and she called the police.
Located at his Otis Street residence, Richard Matthews, 35, initially denied leaving the house, although the police reported the motorcycle was still warm and that other witnesses had reported seeing a man on the motorcycle leave the woman’s property.
The woman told Officer Edward A. Mercier that she has had other problems with her former boyfriend.
In one incident, one of her two dogs died unexpectedly, and a short time later Matthews allegedly got a dog similar to the deceased dog and sent her pictures of it. He also allegedly called her at work trying to start up the relationship again.
Matthews was charged with criminal mischief and stalking, police Sgt. Bob Bishop said Saturday.

Both men said the door to their room was locked Saturday. One computer, an Apple Powerbook G4, was valued at $2,400 and the other, a Compaq laptop, at $1,500. The PlayStation was worth $200.
Police did not have any suspects, and the students were not able to provide any serial numbers for the stolen items. Husson security was notified about the incident.

An Exeter woman cut her husband with a knife after a domestic dispute early Sunday morning that sent him to the hospital for stitches, state police said.
The woman, Lisa Werren, 40, called police to report a domestic dispute between her and her husband, Christopher Werren, 31.
Apparently, the husband came home and the woman didn’t realize it was him, so she cut him with a knife, Maine State Police Trooper David Millett said.
The two had been seen at Lucky’s Tavern in Newport earlier Saturday evening, and Millett said alcohol likely was a factor.
Christopher Werren suffered a deep cut to his left hand that required stitches. The case will be turned over to the Penobscot County District Attorney’s Office to determine if any charges will be filed, Millett said.
