DENVER – Former University of Maine goalie Mike Morrison made 31 saves in his first NHL start Monday night and was voted the game’s No. 1 star as his Edmonton Oilers beat the Colorado Avalanche 5-2 in Denver. Morrison graduated from Maine in 2002 after playing four years for the Black Bears. He was a first team All-Hockey East selection his senior year when he went 20-3-4 with a 2.19 goals-against average and a .921 save percentage. The 26-year-old Morrison was a seventh round draft pick of Edmonton in 1998.
