BANGOR – An Orono woman who suffered extensive injuries in a Nov. 2 accident on Main Street has died.

Melissa Ranson Woodrow, 20, died on Sunday at Eastern Maine Medical Center.

She was fatally injured as she tried to turn left from Walter Street onto Main Street in her 1998 Chevy sedan and collided with a 1999 Ford pickup truck headed south toward Hampden. The accident occurred just before noon in front of Hermon Tattoo and Body Piercing.

The truck, driven by Cynthia Rice, 34, of Bangor connected squarely with Woodrow’s driver’s side door. Rice was not injured, but Woodrow suffered extensive head and neck injuries and a fractured leg and hip.

A police investigation into the accident remains open, though the truck’s speed has been determined to be a factor in the accident, Bangor police Officer James Dearing said Wednesday. Forthcoming charges are possible, he said.

It appeared that Woodrow was not wearing a seat belt, but her vehicle’s air bag deployed, police said at the scene. Both vehicles were destroyed.

Woodrow was a 2003 graduate of Orono High School and was enrolled at the University of Maine Augusta at the Bangor campus.
