WASHINGTON – The Senate Armed Services Committee has approved the nomination of Col. Brent Boyles to become Assistant Adjutant General of the Maine Army National Guard, U.S. Sen. Susan Collins, a member of the committee, announced Wednesday.

The position includes a promotion to the rank of Brigadier General.

Col. Boyles has served in the armed forces for more than 25 years, including with the U.S. Army’s 82nd Airborne Division and most recently as commander of the Maine Army National Guard 52nd Troop Command in Bangor, a position he has held since January 2002.

A 1979 West Point graduate, Col. Boyles currently is senior vice president and chief operating officer of Maine Public Service Company in Presque Isle.

“I am pleased that Colonel Boyles is being recognized for his dedicated service to our country, and the state of Maine,” said Collins.

The nomination is expected to be considered by the full Senate this week.
