Army Sgt. Travis C. Bubar, a 2000 graduate of Maine Central Institute in Pittsfield, has been decorated with the Army Commendation Medal.

The medal is awarded to those who distinguish themselves by acts of heroism, meritorious achievement or meritorious service.

Bubar distinguished himself in 2001-2005 while assigned to the 12th Military Police Detachment, 3rd Military Police Group (CID) at Fort Eustis, Newport News, Va. He performed meritorious service as the unit vehicle and facilities maintenance sergeant. His performance were instrumental in maintaining the buildings and grounds.

Bubar is the son of Carroll L. Bubar of Smithfield and Carla D. Proctor of Pittsfield.
