PORTLAND – Tailback John Wiechman gained 219 yards and scored two touchdowns on 18 carries to lead the Bonny Eagle Scots of Standish to their second straight Class A state football championship, a 41-13 victory over Mt. Blue of Farmington at Fitzpatrick Stadium.
Quarterback Mike O’Donnell gained 89 yards and scored two TD’s on 15 carries and completed six of nine passes for 75 more plus another TD. The Scots racked up 357 yards on the ground after averaging 7.6 yards per carry.
Justin Lowe’s 2-yard TD run in the second quarter tied the game for the Cougars, but Bonny Eagle scored 34 unanswered in the second and third quarters.
Mike Toothaker led Mt. Blue with 92 yards on 14 carries. Mason Barker was 9-for-17 for 172 yards passing, but was intercepted three times.
