AUGUSTA – The Maine State Police is planning additional enforcement efforts during the week of Thanksgiving, including the use of the department’s aircraft, according to Col. Craig A. Poulin, chief of the Maine State Police.

The state police, along with the Maine Bureau of Highway Safety, is strongly encouraging seat belt use.

Adjusting speed and allowing adequate braking distance are two key factors to remember when driving in Maine during winter months, said Poulin. He also suggested that travelers equip their vehicles with a blanket, shovel, booster cables, flares, and salt or sand for emergencies.
